2019 Workshop Proposal Request

Deadline May 16th, 2019

The Mary Irvine Basket Day is a Guild sponsored event providing full-day and half-day workshops to Guild members and the public.  The Guild pays instructors at a rate of $40/hour; students pay only the materials fee (directly to instructors) and a $10 fee (to the Guild) to cover the cost of venue rental.

This year Basket Day is being held at a new venue. The Granite Curling Club, 440 North 128th Street, Seattle, WA 98133, offers ample space to host workshops, plenty of parking, a kitchen for pot luck, and space outdoors for overflow workshops. The lighting is decent, but as we basketmakers know, it’s never perfect. It is a two story building with a ramp to the front door, but no elevator to the second floor. If stairs are limiting to you, please tell us and your workshop to be scheduled on the first floor.

The Guild is requesting proposals for basketry workshops from both new and established instructors. If you have been thinking about teaching a class, this is your opportunity! Proposals will be considered for both full-day (5-7 hours) and half-day (3-4 hours) workshops for a variety of skill levels. Once selected, classes must enroll a minimum of 5 students to “go.”

When submitting your proposal please carefully describe the major techniques and materials used, any prerequisite knowledge required, and the finished project.  Please carefully consider the number of hours required for students complete the project; keep in mind that students of varying skill levels may enroll. A digital image of the completed project is required for proposals to be considered. This image should be high quality, with a simple (white preferred) background for advertising purposes. Proposals will be accepted via the online form (preferred), by mail or by email.
